When too much time lasps without pumping and cleaning your septic tank, It may begin to fail.
The Average septic system replacement may cost from $6,000 to $50,000.
There are three layers that consist in a septic tank. The bottom layer, also known as “sludge” layer, is made up of solids. The middle layer consists of liquids. The last layer comprised of Oils and fat rest on top to form the “scum” layer.
The only layer that’s meant to exit the tank is liquid. Sludge remains on the bottom, slowly breaking down, and scum stays buoyant on top. Over time, the sludge layer begins to build up and, if not removed by pumping, will begin to seep into the drainage pipes and out into the drainage field, causing clogs or back ups into the residence.
As things get worse, you may end up with standing, scummy water around the area of your tank or water containing waste material pooling in your drainage field or fecal material backing into your home.
